DISCOVER THE FUN IN SCIENCE!
Science is anything but “weird” and it can “blind” you with the most amazing and astonishing facts about our universe, our planet, and how it touches our lives every day. Reid Park Zoo is partnering with S.Y.STEM Coalition for a STEM Day at the Zoo on Saturday, April 6th from 11am – 3pm. There will be a wide variety of science-based activities which will include robotics, sand and silicon, rocketry, slime, oobleck making, Junior Shark Tank, paper airplanes, solar systems and much more! Zoo educators will demonstrate how wildlife scientists use STEM to help protect wild animals and wild places. There will also be an enrichment table, Zoo Keeper chats and conservation activities.
Highlight activity is the moon lander experiment where students will be tasked with saving an astronaut (represented by a marshmallow) by creating an effective moon lander that will protect the astronaut during landing. Guests will learn about damping and spring forces and how they affect the lading of their device. After saving the astronaut, children may take home their device and marshmallow for more adventures out in space!
