AAAS SEA Change
SEA Change Awards recognize various stages of self-assessment and effective actions towards diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM). Each Award type focuses on a different element of systemic change, but the overall concept (including the SEA Change process and award levels) is the same for each. All SEA Change guidelines emphasize the need to understand root causes of inequity, encouraging deep analysis of policies, practices, programs, and processes and if they differentially impact the experiences of people on campus.
Arizona's Science, Engineering, and Math Scholars (ASEMS)
This UA program provides services to support students in graduating with a STEM major. This program focuses on promising students who are underrepresented in STEM, especially students who are first in their family to attend college, from low-income households, who transferred from a community college, and from underrepresented groups, such as women and minorities.
CREAR STEM Learning Communities
CREAR STEM Learning Communities are Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) groups that are organized by societal impact areas where you can explore solutions to challenges in your communities. These groups are specially designed for students from historically excluded groups in STEM (Ex. Latinx, African-American, Native, High Financial Need, First Generation, and Community College Transfer students). This small community of students is enrolled as a group in 2-3 classes together during their first semester at the University of Arizona
Inclusive Mentoring Program for STEM Faculty
The University of Arizona’s College of Education and the STEM Learning Center in partnership with Pima Community College (PCC) launched a National Science Foundation (NSF) funded S-STEM Project, “Bridging Faculty and Student Cultures: Culturally Responsive Support for STEM Students Transferring between Two- and Four-Year Hispanic Serving Institutions”.
The Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Leadership Academy
Students will engage with the topic at hand by learning alongside those most impacted by social justice issues through experiential activities, such as workshops and small group discussions.
As a JEDI Academy Student, you will be equipped with the tools necessary to advocate for social justice on a broad scale. Students selected for the JEDI Academy are those who exhibit a strong desire to advocate for social justice on campus and who are passionate about the topic.
NSF Research on Educational Equity and Diversity in STEM (REEDS) Postdoctoral Fellowship.
The fellowship, known as the NSF Research on Educational Equity and Diversity in STEM (REEDS) Postdoctoral Fellowship, will provide exceptional scholars with an opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research and foster inclusive learning environments.
NSURP Program Bridges Opportunity to Underrepresented Students
In June 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Michael Johnson, PhD, assistant professor of immunobiology at the College of Medicine – Tucson, wondered what he could do to lift up underrepresented minorities during such a difficult moment in the nation’s history.
Project LISTO (Leveraging Insights to Strengthen Regional Talent and Opportunities)
Project LISTO aims to introduce students to STEM-related majors and future job opportunities and provides a framework for Hispanic-Serving Institutions in Arizona and other states to do the same.
